For so many musical artists, the trappings of fame often prove to be just that, a trap. Gene Clark’s song explores that, and reminds us that there is more to life, even when we don't understand all the mysteries of the universe. During a radio interview in 1988, he described his gift for songwriting as "an energy being channeled through you, but I don’t know what kind or where... I wake up and go wow there it is, and you know run out turn the tape recorder on pick up the guitar and play it... if I don’t catch it right away it goes away."
